12 Steps in 12 days: Step 1: Admit

So, I am working my way through Fr. Thomas Keating’s book “Divine Therapy”
Step 1: I am powerless over _____X_______ and my life has become unmanageable.
Where X is:
something in my personality development that I cannot see that has led me to this moment.
Where I can accept that I can really look at my life now and see what areas I have not taken on board.
I have made a huge stride forward to this moment by choosing to live on my own.
Whatever goodness has come my way, is now visible to me as the fruits of my labor.
What has rendered me powerless is my gradual willingness to let go of ego centered striving.
I can attribute this to a long run of trial and error and reading good books.
I know that I did not get my own way as a child and that has led me to a nagging frustration in life that I have compounded over time.
I have had grand delusions that if people only knew how smart I was……they would treat me differently.
All the time, I never nurtured myself except minimally.
I learned how to dodge, avoid and run from my shadow self. The part of me that I had no process to process.
I’m getting better now, partly because aging does seem to mellow out the rough edges of one’s personality.
Decades of experiences gives you something tangible to reflect on.
So, had I done absolutely nothing remarkable in my life, could I be at the same point anyway?
According to Ken Wilber, no. I would be even more retarded than I am today.
According to his research, the one practice that bumps everyone up a few stages is incorporating a contemplative practice twice a day for 20 mins. SO that’s what I am doing. I either take a 20 min nap or 20 min meditation twice a day.
What results am I expecting to see?
I think if the flow of the steps are perfectly designed, I would naturally flow into
Step 2. starts tomorrow….

Logical/Probable/Plausible?

Psychologists tell us that the negative voice (a universal), originated in early childhood, runs your life behind the scenes and is re-triggered by “love” itself (intimacy issues).
Logical?
Priests tell us that this negative voice exists because we are sinners.
Probable?
The conspiracy theorists tell us that interdimensional beings are putting the negative voice in our heads?
Plausible?
Who might be right?

Does it matter?
What DOES matter, is that we become alert TO OUR OWN negative voice and divert it into art as a means of self expression or find a good dialectic therapist to pull it out of you.
How can we tell if the negative voice is ours?
Take a look around you…
are you in the presence of someone else who seems to be negative today?
TADA! The Law of Attraction is at play.
You draw in vibrationally the negativity until you see it as something YOU are generating.
Of course the same goes for positivity.
You draw that to you until you recognize it as something YOU are attracting.
SO, no more secrets…your life is what you make it.

IS there a cosmic magpie?

If we could intuit what is most likely to happen next, based on accurate tracking, like Hurricane Irene…
we could take the necessary steps to evacuate along the most likely path of the hurricane.
If we wanted however, to guarantee some destruction, we would go out of our way to remain in our home along the path of the hurricane.
Taken to the extreme, we could throw a hurricane party.
If we wanted to destroy some secrets, we could pile them up and torch to them just as the peak of the storm was flying by and attribute the “house fire” to a lightening strike. Seem plausible?
Where I live, there are fringe people who seem to have a second job leaping in and out of dumpsters. Looking for God or God knows what.
A pre emptive action, might be to take my trash to a recycling site and trust the operators will not rummage through it or destroy it at home and disperse the ash to the yard – hoping there is nothing toxic therein.
If all evidence is looking like we have a population crisis, what pre-adaptive evolutionary steps might be a good idea to imagine?
Imagine a benevolent race of galactic travellers looking to take us/or some of us away, or a malevolent race of galactic travellers who are just waiting patiently for us to self implode so they can move in and enjoy our planet – like cosmic dumpster divers or magpies?

DAY 22? return of the inner slug

Ew. Just when I was getting my exercise stride back from last month, bloat is back on the blog table.

I can feel the rise in progesterone as a slow creeping slug whispering to me that chocolate cake and a 2 hour nap is a perfect date.
My 11 yr old daughter is in empathy with my cycle as she is also hearing the call of the inner fast carb binge.
What would Tim Ferriss do?
He would say binge all you can eat for a day and enjoy the purge when it comes.
Master Cleansers might say, take a sea salt flush and go back onto lemonade for a week and enjoy nature’s detox.

Practice Acts of Valor

So. One of the 6 heart virtues, is Valor. When I first read about it, i didn’t know the “when-which-how” process to put it into action. I have committed acts of courage in my life but they weren’t deliberately planned. You could say they were random acts of self defense. Living defensively. That has accrued me a few extra years to figure out how to shift from LIVING DEFENSIVELY to LIVING DELIBERATELY. Deliberately practicing acts of valor is something new for me. Speaking truth to domination is my next step. Each time someone wants to dominate over me in a conversation I will practice the art of stopping them in their tracks and remind them that this is what they are doing. No one knows me enough to tell me what I should or should not be doing with my life. Unless I ask for advice, no one needs to give me any. And I don’t need to act as an advisor to anyone else either, unless through trackable virtuous acts, they have decided that maybe my POV might be helpful.

It will be a challenge to get through this day as I practice Acts of Valor.

May I extend the 6 heart virtues to each sentient being who enters my energy field today and recognize the source that is within them.

So I found this bodyfat analyzer today. According to the first try, I am @29%. Which according to the chart is average for my height, gender and age. Now I have a measuring tool, I will play with dropping that to the teens, just for fun.

Bacteroidetes & Firmicutes

page 111 the 4 hour body.
Ok so what’s next for me is get familiar with some friendly bacteria that healthy lean people tend to have more of in their gut.
Bacteroidetes are the ones we need to promote through fermented foods and probiotics.
So my next assignment is to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and explore something that I am willing to take every morning to put the friendly stuff back in.
Firmicutes are the ones we want to minimize, that obese people have an overload of.
